need proper stage to come forward to get their identity for the world.
The tribals of Maharashtra are Geographically divided into two sections ''Gondwan'' and Sahyadri. The Gondwan section includes Gond, Madia Gond, Kolam, Korku, Pradhan, Halba, Andh and Thotti Tribes residing in the Amravati, Yeotmal, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Nanded districts. The Sahyadri section includes Warli, Thakur, Mahadev Koli, Malhar Koli, Kikna, Gabit, Bhil Tribes residing in Dhulia, Dhane, Mashik, Pune, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon and Raigarh Districts.
Tribal art is an art of usefulness. Therefore patterns of tribal art will have to be searched. Tribals do not makie similar things for long. Articles are made when the need arises. The decorativeness of the articles often depends upon the availability of time and the need of the hour. While strictly observing tradition and religious concepts, he employs his skill while making even the most insignificant of articles.
Articles are made out of necessity only. Our customs, beliefs and natural surroundings all clearly imitated upon us which find a place on different aspects.
A tribal struggles through life for his daily needs. He meets his major requerements himself. Articles of everyday use follow the pattern of tradition. The son makes his articles as his father had done. The idea of making a profit from his art creation is alien to the tribal Psychology. It is therefore understandable that the articles are not made for profit. While making these articles, his inspiration is from the beauty of Nature around him.
